Trenino Rosso del Bernina
The highest railroad in the Alps.
The experience that everyone should try at least on time in a lifetime is to travel by a famous Trenino Rosso del Bernina, the highest and most picturesque railway 60 kilometers long running through the Alps, that connects Tirano and St. Moritz, a city in a famous Swiss region of Engadina.
The famous red train departs only 13 kilometres away from Teglio. The railroad was included into the UNESCO World Heritage in 2008. It is one of the steepest natural railroads. The red train rises up the mountain free-wheeled, without any rack, along the narrow-gauge track. It travels up the slopes with the pendency of 70 per thousand, runs up to 2253 meters in the Bernina pass and then slowly goes down to 1800 meters in St. Moritz.
You can enjoy the 360° view from modern and comfortable panoramic carriages and admire magnificent landscapes and unique sceneries. It is a magical experience that will leave anyone breathless.
My wife and me spent a weekend in this marvellous hotel. Everything was very good. The hotel is very beautiful and cosy and the owners are kind and friendly. The food made up of typical Valtellina dishes is excellent. From polenta taragna to brasato, not to mention hand-made pizzoccheri: best of all. It was a wonderful experience, we will come again soon!
